Computational Linguistics in Nancy's Masters

Welcome to the home page of Nancy of the specialization in "Natural Language Processing" taught in common by the Computer Science Departments of the Henri Poincaré University (Faculty of Science and Techniques) and the University of Nancy 2 (UFR Mathematics and Informatics).

Computational Liguistics: The Subject

Computational Linguistics is a field both scientific and technological, that is characterized by the use of computers for the automatic treatment of human language.

From the treatment of the spoken word, to the process of the meaning of sentences itself, natural language processing can be used in very divers applications:

  • machine translation,
  • dialogue systems,
  • knowledge extraction,
  • semantic web,
  • automatic indexation,
  • orthographic corrections, etc.

Short Description of the Masters

The Henri Poincaré University and the University of Nancy 2 are starting in September 2005 a specialization in "Natural Langauge Processing (NLP)" common to the "Masters in Computer Science (INFO)" from the University Henri Poincar´┐Ż and the Masters in Cognitive Sciences and Applications of teh University of Nancy 2 (Nancy 2).

The first year of the master can be pursued in any of the two universities, following the curricula of the respective masters but with a common introduction to the basics of natural language processing.

The second year is design as a common curricula. The training courses can be done in a company (Professional Masters) or un a research Laboratory (Scientific Master).
